Iris Alroy, PhD

Iris Alroy, PhD

CSO Anima Biotech

Iris Alroy brings to the Board over 25 years of extensive experience leading drug discovery and development programs in drug discovery, preclinical development, and early clinical development. She currently serves as Amina Biotech’s Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), supervising drug discovery and pipeline development in the emerging field of mRNA translation regulation.
 
Previously, she served as Vice President of Discovery at Proteologics and Pharmos Corp., and CEO of startup biotech companies that included Fusimab Ltd., and ProMining Therapeutics Ltd. She successfully managed drug discovery and development projects and collaborated with researchers in academia and pharmaceutical companies to produce 20+ peer-reviewed publications.
 
Dr. Alroy earned her doctorate in Cell Biology from Cornell University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Weizmann Institute.

Paul Brennan is CSO of Alzheimer’s Research UK Oxford Drug Discovery Institute at University of Oxford, where he is also Professor of Medicinal Chemistry. Dr. Brennan brings scientific leadership to the Board as an experienced senior scientist with pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry titans including Pfizer and Amgen, along with his scientific work at Structural Genomics Consortium at Oxford as a principal investigator in medicinal chemistry.
 
He earned his doctorate in organic chemistry from University of California-Berkeley, followed by postdoctoral research at University of Cambridge. Over the course of his career, Dr. Brennan has worked on most major drug classes of drug targets, including kinases, GPCRs, ion-channels, metabolic enzymes, and epigenetic proteins. His current research is focused on finding new treatments for dementia.

 


 

John Griffin, PhD

Entrepreneur and advisor to science-driven organizations

John Griffin is an entrepreneur and advisor to science-driven organizations, with over 30 years of R&D leadership experience. His expertise includes harnessing new technologies and data science, integrating advanced machine learning/AI, and laboratory-driven drug discovery capabilities. He has authored 40+ publications and is listed as co-inventor on 29 patents.
 
Dr. Griffin served in science leadership posts at Numerate and at Theravance Biopharma, which he co-founded, and as Vice President of Valo Health. He is a Fellow of AAAs and the recipient of research and teaching awards from multiple renowned societies and foundations.
 
He earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from the California Institute of Technology and was a National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard Medical School before launching his career in biotech and pharma.

Paige Mahaney has over 26 years of drug discovery leadership building clinical therapeutic portfolios in both small molecule and antibody therapeutics. Currently, she serves as Senior Vice President and Corporate Head of Discovery Research at Exelixis, leading discovery efforts for the global portfolio for both tumor-targeted and immuno-oncology approaches.
 
Previously, Dr. Mahaney served at Boehringer Ingelheim as SVP and Discovery Research Site Head for the U.S., after working as Global Head of Biotherapeutics Discovery Research, leading a global team responsible for discovery, optimization, and characterization of protein therapeutics.
 
She earned her doctorate in organic chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology followed by 14 years in the medicinal chemistry groups at Roche and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. She has served as committee chair for the American Chemical Society’s Division of Organic Chemistry.

 


 

Kevin Otipoby, PhD

Kevin Otipoby, PhD

SVP of Immunology

Kevin Otipoby is an immunologist with over 20 years of experience in drug discovery and research. His research has largely focused on understanding lymphocyte activation and discovering therapeutics that target this process. He brings experience in advancing projects from early discovery to the clinic. Currently, he serves as Senior Vice President of Immunology at Seismic Therapeutic, with a focus on the autoimmune system and immune-oncology targets and biologics.
 
Dr. Otipoby previously served as Principal Research Scientist at Abbvie and Biogen, and helped start Pandion Therapeutics as Vice President of the Immunology and Biomarker groups. After earning his doctorate in immunology from the University of Washington School of Medicine, he served in a postdoctoral fellowship at the Immune Disease Institute and Harvard University.
