Background Information:
Cathepsins, abundant lysosomal proteases, play key roles in protein degradation and immune responses. Their extra-lysosomal functions, especially in extracellular spaces, are linked to diseases like cancer and cardiovascular conditions, making them valuable diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets. Cathepsin inhibitors were mostly design to target extracellular cathepsin activity and expected to against tumor metastasis.
