Biological Information
Background Information:
Prostanoid receptors belong to the superfamily of G protein-coupled seven transmembrane proteins. G-protein-coupled receptors constitute one of the major signal transduction systems in eukaryotic cells. Coding sequences for these receptors, in those regions believed to contribute to the agonist-antagonist binding site, are strongly conserved across mammalian species. The IP prostanoid receptor is activated by prostaglandin I2 (PGI2) and it is most highly expressed in platelets, vascular smooth muscle and sensory nerves. Prostanoid IP receptors may play a role in thrombosis, injury-induced vascular proliferation, allergic airway responses, inflammation and pain.
cAMP Hunter™ Gs cell lines overexpress naturally Gs coupled, wild type GPCRs and are designed to detect increases in intracellular cAMP levels in response to agonist stimulation of the receptor. These cell lines are designed to be used in conjunction with the HitHunter® cAMP Assay Detection Kit.
