Background Information:

The human melanin-concentrating hormone receptor is a member of the G protein coupled seven transmembrane proteins. G-protein-coupled receptors constitute one of the major signal transduction systems in eukaryotic cells. Coding sequences for these receptors, in those regions believed to contribute to the agonist-antagonist binding site, are strongly conserved across mammalian species. The melanin-concentrating hormone receptor 1 (MCH1) binds the melanin-concentrating hormone, a cyclic orexinogenic peptide. MCH1 is mostly expressed in the central nervous system and plays an important role in feeding behavior. MCH1 has also been implicated in regulating emotion, stress and motivation.
