Biological Information
Background Information:
Encoded by the SCN9A gene, the Nav1.7 channel is essential for the generation and propagation of action potentials, chiefly in the dorsal root ganglion and the trigeminal and sympathetic ganglion neurons. The channel facilitates depolarization of neurons. Gain-of or Loss-of-function mutations in Nav1.7 can contribute to pain disorders such as primary erythromelalgia (PE), Paroxysmal extreme pain disorder, and congenital insensitivity to pain, respectively. Nav1.7 can be studied as a target for novel analgesics. This assay examines the effect of compound on both open-state and inactive-state channels.
