Almost every disease involves impact on our immune systems, either through immune cell stimulatory or inhibitory pathways. Eurofins Discovery offers one of the most comprehensive collections of services to determine the immunomodulatory or inflammatory properties of small molecules, biologics, nanoparticle-based or other innovative approaches. Our validated assays provide translationally relevant cytokines and chemokines as readouts using multiplex technology; many allow custom options. Key areas of focus include:
- Stimulator of interferon genes (STING) plays a critical role in the innate and adaptive arms of the immune system. Recent collective evidence from preclinical studies indicate pharmacologic STING agonists have potential for immuno-oncology.
- Toll-like receptors (TLRs) play a vital role in the regulation of innate immunity and are one of the earliest determinants of immune activation through their response to pathogens, which includes synthesis of cytokines and chemokines to clear infection. Recent evidence indicates a role for TLRs in SARS–CoV-2 infection.
- Monocytes and macrophages are key cells of the innate immune system, with a role in tissue homeostasis, host responses to pathogens, apoptosis, necrosis, autophagy, phagocytosis and resolution of the immune response. Screen for immunosuppressive or anti-inflammatory agents, or for potential immunogenicity of biologics.
- In both non-disease and disease states of the immune system, helper T cells play a crucial role in elimination of foreign microorganisms and maintenance of immunological homeostasis. IL-17 provides immunity against both intracellular and extracellular pathogens and plays a critical role in autoimmune inflammatory diseases.
