Biological Information

Background Information:

Client test articles are used on human PBMCs to monitor secretion of IL-6 and reported as pg/mL for the strength of the response. Pam3CSK4 (Diacylated Lipoprotein) is used to specifically activate TLR1/2 and is used as an induction control for comparison purposes, while non-treated cells serve as background control. The number of PBMC donors in this study is customizable and can be tested as either individual or pooled donors.

Adverse / Beneficial Action:

TLR ligands (agonists) have shown value for treatment and/or prevention of infectious and neoplastic diseases. Based on safety and efficacy of the TLR agonists used to date, applications are likely to increase in the future. TLR antagonists may be used to treat a number of inflammatory conditions, including sepsis, skin diseases, rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus.
