Biological Information
Background Information:
The Cytochrome P-450 (CYP450) is a superfamily of membrane-bound, heme-containing mixed-function oxygenases that are the principal enzyme system for metabolism of drugs and other xenobiotics. These enzymes are expressed in many tissues, with the highest levels in liver. CYP450 principally introduce oxygen into a molecule to increase the hydrophilicity of the product which can be eliminated easily from the body. CYP450 assays are designed to predict potential drug-drug interactions for screening new chemical entities.
