Understanding the Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion (ADME) and Pharmacokinetics (PK) properties of your compounds early in drug discovery is essential for selecting candidates with desirable drug metabolism and safety profiles. Determining the bioavailability of a compound or the rate and extent at which the active drug enters systemic circulation, is key for predicting whether or not a drug will have the desired efficacy.

The bioavailability of a compound is influenced by many factors including solubility, absorption (and permeability), and protein binding. Eurofins Discovery provides a wide range of assays to determine compound bioavailability, including aqueous solubility tests in simulated fluids, drug absorption by measuring intestinal (or MDCK) permeability rates, interactions with transporters (e.g., P-glycoprotein) that may limit exposure and protein binding assays. All of our bioavailability assays are available in standard human and animal model systems and can be ordered individually, combined, or as a selection of key bioavailability services provided in our drug candidate assessment packages to provide cost savings.
